Sam Lessin's end of week roundup
Things I spent time thinking about this week / talking about:
- MoL Year 1 in review -- we just crossed the 1 year mark doing more or less... some thoughts on what we got right and wrong
- AI products experiment -- Hearsay.email Messing with simple AI 'product' interfaces I am kinda interested in / messing around with what you can build in terms of new product interactions with the most basic real uses of LLMs (like summarization) -- here is one experiment where if you email in 'quality' you get back quality... there has been soo much focus on the tech, and so little on product innovation given the tech.
- What about just one paragraph summaries of all the newsletters I don't read? I subscribe to so many newsletters I will never read because they are too long / also just too expensive to open and deal with... but what about a dashboard which just summarizes each like a very modern 'google reader'? Is this a thing I want?
- Where are the Elites? Andrew Kortina sent me this great essay today on Ribbonfarm (which is always awesome and I wish I had more time to read in general) ... which makes a compelling case for why this era of tech is so deeply changing what elite leadership can be (and nicely intellectually contextualizes misguided DEI campus activism, etc.)
- The debate was just awful… so is getting hacked I feel for Biden, sincerely - and it is a sad day that whomever happens to be named ‘Mr. Anyone Else’ is about to get more write-ins for president than anyone in history … but what a disaster. To make matters worse, I also got socially engineered / hacked when I picked up a phone-call in the middle of the debate (and I think of myself as pretty smart!). Thx to Google for sorting it out fast, and gives me sympathy for people who have lost accounts, etc. It was an awful feeling and very scary even if fixed rapidly.
- Shoresy Season 3 just came out -- I can't wait. This was alraedy probably my favorite TV show / successor to letterkenny, but I hear season 3 is the crown jewel.
Have a great week (trying a sunday send)
