Sam Lessin's end of week roundup
Things I spent time thinking about this week / talking about:
- MoL: Zuckerberg's Open Source AI Manifesto -- MZ's open source manifesto was great IMHO and is right for the world (and for meta)... We discuss open vs. closed strategies broadly (including this crazy Crowdstrike situation of scary phantom centralization) as well as fun but kinda important topics like the meme-market-ability of Trump vs. Harris
- Topaz AI photo tools I got marketed these topaz photo tools I have been playing with... and quite like them. Nothing groundbreaking, but nice form factor for upscaling images with AI and removing objects / people etc. Interfaces matter. Makes an argument for usability of non-adobe superapps.
- On Demand Labor Fatigue ... Interesting supreme court case in favor of on-demand work platforms like Uber and Airbnb in CA... and yet, i really thought this ad hit a chord. I think the young people are really stung out on meaningless on-demand jobs / the hunt for purpose and meaning in work is real again (also FYI part of the AI story for tech workers, they really want it to be meaningful!).
- Software Lead GBO deals (growth buyout) I forgot to link to this in last 2 weeks -- but good deck by will and yoni on one of Slow's thesis born from things like our Metropolis deal.... answer first, build software, then just buy your customers. Worth a flip if you haven't seen it.
- Netanyahu's speech... look, i get it, no one likes or trusts the guy; however, I am in the camp that thought his speech was compelling and well delivered. And I agree with him on his chickens for KFC quip. He is right about this.
Happy birthday mom
sam
I would appreciate any good media recs. This was the week I gave up on House of the Dragon (too slow and boring). Is society just moving on from these 'never ending series' broadly, or is it just me?
